Get up to speed with new car technology

Journeys are made digital with new car technology that enhances the driver’s experience and revolutionises the road we know today. Here are 5 innovative ways technology is stepping it up a gear.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Maintaining a preset distance between the driver and the car in front, this feature brings safety to a whole new level. It can also stop the car if needs be to keep that distance. The 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan’s adaptive cruise control adjusts for slow traffic and smoothly picks back up to speed.

Parking Assist

Scraping a wheel on the curb and coming in and out of a tight space a dozen times won’t be an issue for drivers soon. Already there is a set of proximity sensors in some cars that beep when they’re close to hitting something, but new technology is making it so that all drivers will need to do is sit back and watch the steering wheel do all the work.

In-Car Connectivity

With a data connection in the dash that powers Wi-Fi access for compatible devices such as a tablet or smartphone, having the Internet on a journey will transform the driver’s experience.

Navigation

Sat Navs are made even smarter now with cloud connectivity, enabling real time traffic information and local search. The Audi connect system offers Google Earth mapping, parking information, and picture navigation, which uses geo-coordinates embedded in a picture to find an address and route the car to it.

Infotainment System

Android Auto, Google’s infotainment interface, links new cars to their smartphones running the Android operating system. The mobile app offers drivers control over GPS navigation, making calls, sending messages and playing music. Techradar.com says, ‘Chevrolet and Cadillac have announced that almost every vehicle in their 2015 line-up of cars will be compatible with Android Auto’. However, it is also designed with safety in mind, making it a priority to minimise distraction from the road. Selectronic can provide you with the best technology for a central touchscreen infotainment system.
