Most vehicles now use LCDs and TFTs within the Instrument Cluster. A typical configuration would be a central medium resolution dot matrix display; either LCD or TFT, together with smaller character/icon LCDs either side, within the Rev and Speedo dials.
Higher end vehicles are now looking to use a large TFT as the whole Instrument Cluster where the display can be configured to individual requirements.
HUD – Head Up Displays are also now a common feature in high end vehicles to allow the driver to view information in the ‘heads-up’ position as opposed to looking away from the road. This is accomplished by information from a display being projected onto the front windshield of a vehicle.
Selectronic can offer many LCD technologies for Instrument Clusters and HUD’s including TFT’s with high luminance, wide viewing angles and extended temperature ranges.
Each solution can be project managed from concept stage through to global logistics and managing end of life expectations.
